Wow, that's awesome. Would it sound really hokey if I told you good job? I would probably never have gotten away if it weren't for Steve. And the Barge, maybe.

[There are other timelines where he ran without the Barge, obviously, so he doesn't know if his would've been different, but even then there had still been Steve.]

When I said I'd been ready to give up, I mean I'd been about to stick a needle in my eye.

[Which doesn't mean she didn't do a good job, of course. She's proud of herself for her escape. But ultimately she, like him, hadn't been able to manage it on her own.]

I'm an independent person. Not great with people, awful with their emotions. I like being able to rely on myself. But, uh... there's value in a team effort, you know? So. Good job to you, too.

Yeah, I'd kinda figured it was something like that. I tried attacking the retrieval team once hoping it would actually kill me, so. I get it.

But team efforts are-- they're good. Even as the thing I was with HYDRA, I understood the value of good backup. Of a team. Now I believe in it even more. Nobody can go it alone, and it ain't good for anyone to try.

[There's a smile in his voice, even if it's a little wry, as he adds,]

So guess we both learned some good lessons, huh?

[She nods, both agreeing and understanding. She'd been used to working as a part of a team since her days in the Marines, but after her ISA partner's death, letting a new team matter had been a tough sell. And while she'd traveled a long ways down the path to changing her mind before her capture, that had clinched it. ]

I don't regret it. Doing what I did that put me in their crosshairs - if I had the chance to go back and do it differently, I wouldn't.
