CHARACTER
Name: James Buchanan Barnes
True Name: Bucky
Canon: MCU (end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, 4 days after the helicarrier scene, but before the post-credits scene)
Age: Early 30s in appearance/maturity, 98 based on birthdate
History: MCU wiki
Powers/Abilities:
Bucky was injected with the super-soldier serum. Not quite the kind that was given to Captain America, but rather one that's gone through some variations and remixes due to lack of resources, creative thinking, and indifference to the suffering of the subject. This increases his metabolism to the point where he heals from damage in about 1/4 the time of an unenhanced human; he has increased strength, speed, and stamina; his memory has improved to the point of being nearly edetic; he has slightly enhanced senses of sight and hearing; and he can no longer get drunk. That last one is not necessarily a benefit.
His left arm from the shoulder down has also been replaced with a metal prosthetic made of steel and titanium, which is anchored with more metal all up and down his ribs and spine. This arm is stronger than a flesh arm, and bulletproof, but it also hurts all the time to use. His serum is never not healing microdamages from just carrying it around.
Inventory: A rucksack with a couple spare sets of clothes, his guns and ammo, his leather and kevlar tactical vest and weapons harness, and a notebook with several pencils. He's wearing combat boots, jeans, a baseball cap, a couple more long sleeved shirts and a jacket, and several knives in sheaths in various places around his body.
Job History:
* Fist of HYDRA, 1945-2014: Advanced hand-to-hand fighting techniques, proficiency with firearms and close-combat weapons of an incredibly wide variety, fluency in multiple languages, enhanced bodily control and flexibility, subterfuge, stealth, and standard mission skills such as looking after the basic necessities, shaking a tail, obtaining supplies, and seeking out intel. Also includes dealing with pain and abuse, learning to read handlers and techs to avoid the said pain and abuse, and following orders without question.
* Howling Commando, 2IC, 1944-1945: Leadership skills, stubborn idiot management, supply procurement through military lines, and working as a small semi-autonomous strike team within a larger support structure.
* Sergeant, US Army, 1943-1945: Basic army training and advanced sniper training, as well as an understanding of guerilla tactics and some mechanical expertise. He can do simple maintenance work on 1940s Jeeps and keep his weaponry in good repair.
* Home repair: Strength, fine dexterity, and the knowledge of how to fix a variety of things around the house and workplace, particularly furniture, plumbing, and radios.
* Dock Worker: Strength, cooperation, and swearing in a variety of common New York languages.
Suppressions: What isn't he suppressing? His personality, his sense of self, his personal opinions, his anger, his memories, his desires (pretty much all of them), his fear (and he is afraid of a lot). He's spent the past seventy years being ground down until he no longer really considers himself a person, and he's used to following very rigid and restrictive rules for his behavior. Repressing is basically his only coping mechanism right now, and he is really good at it. As memories start to return over time, he'll probably get worse at it, but right now? It’s all he knows.
Greatest Fear: Being controlled. Doctors. Being physically restrained. It's really hard to pick between those three as a top fear, because they’re all connected to the same root trauma.
Greatest Desire: To protect those he loves, though he's not sure who that is anymore, so he will probably wind up protecting anybody who comes into his orbit.
Greatest Regret: Hitting the stupid former target six times in the face with a metal fist. After shooting him in the gut and the leg. And stabbing him.
