Sometimes Godric wants to just retreat into himself when people talk to him. Especially Bucky and Steve. He wants to help them. Wants them so desperately to be happy or content, and he's fighting a losing battle.

What the fuck is a helicarrier? What happened to him? To Steve? They're both so stubborn. He needs so much context and things can't be simple ever. Trying to figure them out is like trying to do a puzzle with no edges upside down. He gets a few pieces in that fit but it's all a mess in front of him.

But it's worth it. They're worth it.

None of this shows on the outside. He calmly watches Bucky's move before he quickly sets up another pawn. The only sign of distraction is that he's left his queen completely open.
